Perceptions on Purpose

Can a person have purpose without it being created? Without them or someone or something else fashioning the circumstance that causes a person to choose a purpose or think to themselves,
“hey I know,
that’s for
me,
that’s what I’ll do,
that’s what I’ll
be”.

What I mean to ask is, can true purpose just exist? Unequivocally? Irrevocably?

So you got to this earth and there was your purpose, shining resplendently like the North Star before your eyes. And the purpose was plain and it was certain and there were no questions or doubts surrounding it cos it was so complete and ideal and concrete. And you sped off without delay to fulfill it cos that’s your very reason for being. Can that be? Has anyone out there experienced that? Or is everyone as lost as I am? Cos EVERYONE I know that claim’s they’ve found purpose, has really just selected something they fancied and labeled it their ‘purpose’.

Do I have to just harden the fuck up and accept that that’s the way things are…or should I soldier on, endeavoring to find purpose no matter what? Maybe I’ll be the first to find it without creating it. Or, I could end up wasting an entire lifetime chasing something everyone else knows HAS to be created…and then I’ll die sad and purposeless at the end of it all with a heart full of regrets…

Ellen makes people laugh…that’s a great feature, but not a purpose.
Oprah gives people free stuff…that’s generosity, but not a purpose.
President Obama motivates a nation…that’s a skill, but not a purpose.

I’d love to ask these 3 what their true purpose is…Ellen, Oprah, Barrack, if any of you ever read this, please answer that question for me.

The apple tree makes apples which feed the land…now that’s a purpose.

Dear Future Self,

This post should’ve come first but I’m regrettably not as organized as I should be…

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had nifty notions running through my mind all day long.
And every now and then, I would jot down some thoughts, inside a book cover or on a piece of scrap paper. Then, time would pass by and on the day that I’m throwing out an old dusty book or a worn scrap of paper, I would read a notion that my past self felt the need to scribble down and be startled and amazed that I even had a thought so profound to begin with.

My past self knew things that are long lost to me, just as I know things that my future self will find invaluable.

Keeping a physical journal is too much work for someone like me but blogging is convenient. I started this blog so that future me will have some insight into who I was in the past.
I want future me to: remember who WE used to be, try not to stop writing so “future future” me will know who YOU used to be and stay forever young.

The only reason for this post is to remind me why I started posting to begin with…if I didn’t need this reminder, I wouldn’t really need this blog.
It’s the cyclic referencing loop of my life…

A notion about being Super-Human

E E Cummings once said, "It takes courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are."

But are we really anything at all if there isn’t anyone around us to witness and verify our existence?

More and more people are trying desperately to believe in themselves and be all they can be in this lifetime…to extend beyond the achievements of the generations before them and leave behind a legacy worth talking about.

Humans are enthralled by the idea of possessing god-like abilities.

I’m not sure why this is so, but we all become spellbound by superheroes and mesmerized by characters that can alter time or teleport, see into the future or communicate with the dead.

On one or more occasions during our lives, our minds create scenes of superhero role-playing in which we are super-human in some form or another. Mostly, we hope that we are the only ones on the planet with this ability… it’s an inherent longing to be unique, powerful, wanted and glorified by others.

But if there was no one else in the world to witness your greatness, would you still long for it?

A completely one-sided view of Desserts

I have a soft spot for desserts.

Desserts are wonderful and, in my book, are generally superior to the other dishes which precede and follow them.
I always jump ahead to the dessert section in a menu or scope out the desserts on offer in a buffet first before giving thought to the other dishes being served up.

There’s something about a finely decorated, elegantly presented, sweet piece of heaven that can uplift a person’s spirit and bring a smile to their lips and their belly.
A dessert is beautiful and welcoming, hearty and satisfying.
It’s a small masterpiece which anyone can deservedly indulge in as a long day draws to a tiring end.

So whether you fancy velvety chocolate delicacies or soft creamy caramels, rich buttery sponges or syrupy palatable pastriesfollow your heart…release your worries…and eat some dessert to feed your soul.

A Lack of Opinion on Finding your Perfect Vocation

Sir Ken Robinson is right.
He knows what he's talking about when he requests that we try to find a vocation which "speaks to our most authentic selves".

Now, whenever this topic comes up I feel very uncomfortable.
And that's because this is an area for which I don't have a solid opinion to call my own.
And that in turn stems from my lack of experience in this field...
You see, I have not found that thing which speaks to my most authentic self, and I think there are too many others out there who haven't either.

The people that live for the weekends.

And I feel extremely envious toward those who have found a truly satisfying line of work..are they just luckier then me that they happened to stumble upon the exact thing that feeds their soul or did they have some inherent knowledge from the time they were born which I do not possess?
Or perhaps they themselves don't understand how they came to be in that perfect situation..they just got there.

Being so profoundly impassioned by one's trade must be a wondrous feeling.
All that said, I think there is still hope for me so I'll stay faithful to the notion that I'll oneday find a calling or that I'll somehow be bestowed with the knowledge that could lead me to my calling...and you should too.
However, for know, I'll continue to remain completely out of my element and keep scraping shrimp...

Thoughts on Spirituality

Spirituality takes you away from the physical.
There's a fatal flaw in that, and that is that
you are a physical entity living in a physical world.

The key thing to understand here is that your time as a physical entity is limited..we know this to be a certainty.
The physical body must die, moreover, we could lose it at any time.
Now as I see it, when we die, one of 3 things could happen..1) We could simply cease to exist..or 2) we could continue to exist in a spirit form, or 3) we could continue to exist in a new physical form.
If 1 or 2 happen, the truth is this, you can no longer do anything physical. That means you'll be forced to be spiritual (or nothing at all if case 1 is true).
Only case 3 provides the perfect expansion pack, gives you a reason to seek enlightenment and most importantly, gives you hope that the things you do here today could possibly affect you in another lifetime.

Given all the knowns in this situation, including the fact that there is only a 33.33% chance of case 3 happening, the most sensible conclusion would be that we should make the most of the limited time we have in the physical world by saturating ourselves in the joys of all things physical.

Leave spirituality for when you are a spirit.

For now, spend time engaging your senses and optimizing your body, including your brain.
Feel excitement, wonder and enthusiasm.
Watch a 3D movie, inhale the sea breeze, kiss your lover, hug your child.
Soak up the sun, ride a rollercoaster, relish a delicacy, dress to impress.
Gaze in amazement at the Rayleigh scattering on a bright day in a free atmosphere.
Listen to the wisdom of your grandparents and the sounds created by great artists.
Eat your mum's home-cooked food.

And if being spiritual makes you physically happy, then be that too, but don't be taken too far away from the physical...it's a wonderful, wonderful world.

An opinion on adults

As a kid, adults look like they're a different species.

Tall, disciplined with a distinct lack of bright color in the clothes they wear.
I remember wondering when the transition would occur, wondering what the moment would feel like when I crossed over and became one of them.
I'm still waiting...the moment never arrived.

The silliness, the inexplicable constant joy, the simplicity in everything worldly and the urge to create..it never leaves.
Yet somehow, the adults look just as they did 20 years ago.
And I'm still waiting..
And I may understand them now, but I still don't belong in their world.
Or maybe more correctly, they don't belong in their world..they should transition back over to this side..the side where the world looks bigger, worries don't exist, and clothes are brightly colored.
